Tehran’s starch industry is the metropolitan hub and demand centre for Iran’s conversion sectors. Primary wheat-starch production concentrates in Varamin, Rey and Pakdasht; bulk orders, advanced hydrocolloid imports and capillary trade run through Tehran — especially the Molavi wholesale corridor.

Transit position and proximity to national grain silos and flour milling stabilise flour-to-starch and gluten conversion. Grade A serves dairy, confectionery, meat and sauces; Grade B feeds corrugating, industrial adhesives and textile sizing. Corn, tapioca, rice and potato starches are largely imported or sourced from neighbouring provinces, linking refinery clusters to packaging and pharma in the capital.

In Varamin and Pakdasht, basin settling gave way to continuous decanter, tricanter and vacuum flash-dryer trains; Grade A extraction exceeds 85% and active gluten above 75% protein adds high-value co-product revenue.

Molavi bazaar (Mohammadiyeh to Bagh-e Ferdows) sets cash prices for pearl and powder wheat starch in 25–50 kg sacks; Mousavi Haghighi dispatch supplies the corridor from Varamin plants. Short credit terms and guild knowledge define the traditional lane.

Modern corridors on Vozara, Motahari and Pasdaran host agency brands with COA, halal and food/drug approvals. Kahrizak, Shourabad and Shamsabad fringe warehouses palletise import bulk for peripheral plants and Molavi wholesalers.

Stratejik görünüm

Dependence on imported modified starch remains the main gap; Ecofusion Zarand in Rey covers part of demand while Shamsabad, Safadasht and Abbasabad offer greenfield chemical/enzymatic modification. Corrugating clusters sustain Grade B demand. Next steps: diversify feedstock (cassava, rice, potato) and expand gluten-free and pharma grades around the capital.
