Toyserkan walnut processing ecosystem & value chain
Toyserkan County on the southern slopes of Alvand is Iran’s walnut horticulture capital and holds a global geographical indication; over 8,300 ha of its 11,300 ha orchards are walnuts, yielding 20,000–24,000 t of premium nuts yearly.
The shift from bulk traditional trade to laser sorting, extra-virgin oil, MAP packing and biomass industries (walnut shell powder and activated carbon) is building a multi-sector industrial model.

The Safavid-era covered bazaar hosts ~250 licensed traders; Gerdookan, Aghaye Gerdo and Tuserko connect orchards nationwide. Missing a dedicated dried-nut customs post and blending with cheap imports threaten the GI brand.
Local platforms with quality passports are shifting trade online; Nobarine and Aghababaei lead MAP laser-sorted kernel exports.
Informal cheap imports and undocumented transshipment erode the Toyserkan GI; digital traceability and authenticity standards are urgent.
